Acquisition Unites Leading Risk-Reduction Technologies to Create the
Most Comprehensive OB Clinical Decision Support Solution Available Globally

Princeton, NJ (July 27, 2009) – PeriGen, the only OB-specific risk reduction solution for hospitals generating immediate, quantifiable clinical and financial value, today announces the acquisition of the software and related assets of LMS Medical Systems (Canada) Ltd, the Montreal-based leading provider of maternal-fetal monitoring and interpretive technologies. Terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.

Currently contracted in 36 hospitals nationwide, PeriBirthTM, PeriGen’s advanced clinical decision support system, has supported more than 310,000 births and is built on more than 6,500 OB protocols, regulatory standards, and best practices. The PeriBirth solution provides clinicians assurance that the prescribed and recommended course of care is followed and documented. This results in the safest obstetrical care for mother and baby as well as financial benefits to the hospital – specifically a solution that pays for itself typically in less than 18-months.

“PeriGen’s acquisition unites two leaders in technology-driven OB-risk reduction solutions. By integrating LMS’s suite of advanced fetal strip monitoring and interpretative solutions with PeriBirth, PeriGen will provide hospitals with a comprehensive and unmatched OB decision support and documentation solution”, said Donald A. Deieso, Ph.D., PeriGen’s Chairman and CEO. “This uniquely powerful combination will provide the most advanced technology to help clinicians achieve the highest levels of patient safety while reducing risk and malpractice,” he added.

With this acquisition, PeriGen expands its reach into Canada and adds a number of patents and proprietary OB technologies which are cleared by the FDA, licensed by Health Canada, and bear the CE mark for Europe. LMS Medical Systems, a pioneer in the development of real-time analysis of continuous maternal-fetal monitoring, was founded by obstetrician Emily Hamilton, MDCM, FRCSC, and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University. Dr. Hamilton will assume the role of Senior Vice President of Research for PeriGen.

“From the inception of our company, using technology to improve the safety of labor and delivery for mother and baby has been at the heart of what we do,” says Dr. Hamilton, “We’re proud and excited to be a part of PeriGen, an organization that shares our passion for advancing the quality of OB care and, thereby, helping to create optimal birth experiences and outcomes.
