ATLANTA, Oct 28, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Gwinnett Medical Center, located in metropolitan Atlanta, has captured $2.6 million in additional charges in just seven months using MedAssets (MDAS 18.80, +0.62, +3.41%) enhanced Charge Capture Audit (CCA) tool to improve efficiency, breakdown departmental silos and accelerate its cash flow. Gwinnett Medical Center has been using CCA to drive its charge capture process since 2005. In March 2010, Gwinnett Medical Center began using an enhanced version of CCA with business-driven workflows to reduce phone calls and e-mails to clinical departments. CCA also automates rules to handle exceptions and reduces the rework process, leading to more accurate bills. "Our Revenue Integrity team uses CCA to improve our rules editing, which has reduced missed charges, increased compliance and reduced the number of people having to focus on reworking accounts," said Michelle Johnson-Bolden, director of revenue integrity at Gwinnett Medical Center. "After seeing the positive results, our clinical departments began using CCA directly to further increase our efficiency, improve our rules editing and compliance and capture more charges."
The enhanced CCA features a work queue-based application, helping healthcare providers eliminate batch-based exceptions. Within the enhanced workflow, all exceptions are automatically routed to resources responsible for researching and correcting billing problems. Built-in rules also automatically resolve exceptions based on client-specific criteria, eliminating non-productive activities. CCA features separate workflows for patient bills and charge exceptions. The tool also features robust reporting and user-driven reporting, advanced find features, the ability to save favorite reports and enhanced data capture abilities.
